19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's initial championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.
Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different events.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.
Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.
The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.
Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
The opponent defended 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
