PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
